Spotlight
The Hunger and Health Coalition would like to shine a spotlight one of our many volunteers.
This month, the spotlight is on Kent Oehm!
Born and raised in New Jersey, Kent moved to Boone in 1973 after spending six years in the Marine Corps. He graduated from Appalachian State University and after earning his degree, he worked as an art teacher. Before retiring, he spent time teaching at
Cove Creek Elementary School
and
Hardin Park Elementary School
.
Kent is starting his third year with us at the Hunger and Health Coalition. One of the ways in which he assists us is in food pickup! Every week, he travels to local businesses that have partnered with us, and picks up donations of food, and brings it back here so we can get it out to you, the community.
In his spare time, Kent is an avid reader, enjoying a wide range of books. He takes advantage of the scenic community by riding his bike, but his favorite way to spend his free time is spoiling his new granddaughter, Juliet.
It is volunteers like Kent that help enable us to do the work we do. Without our volunteers, we could not do all we do, and we are very grateful for their work.
The Hunger and Health Coalition has many volunteers who assist us in our mission to relieve poverty and hunger in a compassionate manner for families and individuals who are experiencing immediate, but temporary economic hardship and food shortages. We are grateful for every single one of our volunteers, and want to say "Thank you!" for a job well done.
For specific information on how you can become a volunteer, please contact Kim Winebarger.
