Head Start
The Head Start program and Early Head Start program are comprehensive child development programs which serve children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and their families. They are child-focused programs and have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families.
Additionally, they provides school children with lunches during the school week. As part of this assistance, The Hunger and Health Coalition provides nutritious snacks to these children in Watauga and Avery Counties.
Volunteers are needed to make once-a-month deliveries to two different Head Start locations in Avery County: One at New Land, and the other at Plum Tree.
