Spotlight
The Hunger and Health Coalition would like to shine a spotlight one of our many volunteers.
This month, the spotlight is on Elaine Crowell!
Having retired from her 30-year job as a middle school teacher, Elaine moved to Boone in 2001 from Charlotte, and has been a volunteer with us ever since.
This beautiful person not only spends her time here at the HHC,
but she's also a volunteer with many other community organizations, such as
Appalachian Summer Festival,
The Blowing Rock Stage Company,
Turchin Center for the Visual Arts,
Budget Box,
and Appalachian Performing Arts.
When she's here at the HHC, she does what we call 'client intake', which is just a fancy way of saying
she uses her warm smile and big heart to greet everyone, helping them get the services they need, be it a food voucher,
or simply directions to the pharmacy!
In her spare time, she enjoys
knitting,
shag dancing,
bridge,
and
line dancing.
It is volunteers like Elaine that help enable us to do the work we do. Her compassion and spirit of understanding are tremendous gifts, and we are very grateful for her help.
The Hunger and Health Coalition has many volunteers who assist us in our mission to relieve poverty and hunger in a compassionate manner for families and individuals who are experiencing immediate, but temporary economic hardship and food shortages. We are grateful for every single one of our volunteers, and want to say "Thank you!" for a job well done.
For specific information on how you can become a volunteer, please contact Kim Winebarger.
