Why do people need help with prescription medications?
Rising Prescription Costs
The costs of medications continue to rise forcing people to make choices between taking medications and paying for other necessities, such as food or
utilities.
Lack of adequate insurance
Insurance is often not available to many seasonal or part time workers. Obtaining an individual policy is too expensive for the average worker –
so people simply remain uninsured.
Limited Income
Even small increases in expenses can present difficulties for those living on limited incomes. Particularly vulnerable are seniors and the disabled.
What The Hunger and Health Coalition can do to help:
141 Pharmacy
In 1995 The Hunger and Health Coalition began offering prescription medications to eligible clients in response to the rising concern over the lack of affordable
medications. The program has grown with the demand for services. Today, the 141 Pharmacy fills approximately 1000 prescriptions per month.
